Bruno Cattani began photographing in 1982 and has been a photojournalist since 1988. In 1996 he
participates in a photographic research on the Museums of Reggio Emilia, starting his study on the places
of art. Over the years he has received numerous assignments in the field of photographic research for
museums such as the Musée Rodin, the Musée du Louvre, the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-
Arts in Paris, the Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica (National Institute for Graphics), the
Pergamonmuseum in Berlin and the Archaeological Superintendence of Pompeii. In 2000, he
participates in the exhibition D’après l'Antique at the Louvre Museum and, in the same year, his
exhibition L'arte dei luoghi is included in the programme of the Mois de la Photo in Paris. Figure Nel
Tempo is the title of the solo exhibit held in 2002 at the Galleria Civica in Modena, curated by Walter
Guadagnini. In 2003 he exhibits some of his photographs, commissioned by the Musée Rodin in Paris, in
the exhibition curated by Sandro Parmiggiani Camille Claudel. Anatomie della vita interiore held at Palazzo
Magnani in Reggio Emilia. He participates in the collective exhibition Portrait of a Collection at the
Maeght Foundation of Saint-Paul de Vence.
In 2005 he begins his research on memory, which unfolds like a journey into memory, in which he tries to
bring back to life the emotional past through narrative and evocative images. In 2008 he participates in the
third edition of the event Fotografia Europea in Reggio Emilia. In the spring of 2010 he presents his
personal exhibit Memorie with a book published by Allemandi, curated by Sandro Parmiggiani.
In 2007 he is invited to exhibit at the Biennale of Photography in Thessaloniki and participates in the
collective exhibition Italy – Provence, organized by the Fontaine Obscure d'Aix-en-Provence. In 2008 the
Foundation Pistoletto of Biella invites him to be part of the exhibition Paesaggi piemontesi and in the
same year he is among the artists invited to take part in the exhibition Collection Reggio Emilia as part of
the Mois de la Photo 2008 in Paris.
His photos are at the DARC in Rome in the exhibition Architettura come paesaggio where images of the
most important works made by Studio Gabetti and Isola Architetti of Turin are displayed.
He exhibits at the collective exhibition l furore delle immagini. Fotografia italiana dall’Archivio d’Italo Zannier
nella collezione della Fondazione di Venezia curated by Denis Curti at the Foundation Bevilacqua la
Masa in Venice.
He is one of the artists invited to the Italian Pavilion of the 54 th International Art Exhibition of the Venice
Biennale with six photos of the work Memorie selected by Italo Zannier.
His project Eros, dedicated to body shapes in the world of statues, the outcome of years of stylistic
research in exhibition spaces throughout Europe, is proposed for the first time at the Chic Art Fair in Paris
in 2012.
The Musée Réattu in Arles includes him in the Musée Réattu, Acte V, while Italo Zannier and Denis Curti
bring him to the Galleria d’arte moderna e contemporanea in Pordenone in the exhibition Italo Zanier. La
sfida della Fotografia. Un inedito racconto per immagini (Italo Zanier. The challenge of Photography. An
unprecedented story in images).
Sognare giocando (Dreaming while playing), a foray into the fantastic world of childhood through toys, is a
project proposed at Arte Fiera in Bologna in 2013 and at Mia in Milan in 2014.
In 2014 he reprints the book Memorie, published by Danilo Montanari Editore, a new chapter of his
research that continues with many new shots, on the occasion of the personal exhibit at the Bugno Art
Gallery in Venice and at the Spilimbergo festival, promoted by CRAF and at the end of 2015 at the
Photographica Fine Art in Lugano. Choreographer Valerio Longo chooses some images from Eros for
the video of Nude Anime, a performance created for the Fondazione Nazionale per la Danza
Aterballetto.
In 2016 he takes part in collective exhibitions in various galleries and exhibits at the Palazzo Ducale,
Fondazione per la Cultura in Genoa, with the project The Memory Box taken from the series Memorie.
In December he presents, once again in Genoa, his personal exhibition Carousel at VisionQuesT
contemporary photography. A few months later, in the February 2017 issue, the British Journal of
Photography dedicates an article to his Carousel project in the Projects section.
He participates in many photography fairs around the world (Arte Fiera Bologna, Mia Milan, Turin,
Verona, Paris, Brussels, Miami, Lyon and Photo London).
For two consecutive years he is among the finalists of the BNL award at Mia 2013- 2014 and winner in
2015.
In 2017 he creates Frammenti, a new work in continuity with Memorie, which he exhibited at the Festival
of European Photography in Reggio Emilia, at the Officine Fotografiche in Rome and at Arte Fiera in
Bologna, followed then by a publication with Corsiero Editore.
He is invited to participate in the collective exhibition on the occasion of the 150 th anniversary of the Musée
Réattu in Arles.
In 2019 he publishes Eros with Artphilein Editions and participates in Photo London for the fourth year.
