Chopard is known as a designer and manufacturer of classical and contemporary jewellery, watches and accessories. In 1860 Louis-Ulysse Chopard established the comppany under his own name, predominantly manufacturing pocket watches of own design. This practice continued until 1963, when Paul-Andre Chopard, who was the owner of Chopard at the time, could not persuade his sons to continue the family business and was forced to sell it to watchmaker Karl Scheufele.

Using his experience gained through his own jewellery business, Karl added a jewellery line to Chopard, for which it is now famous. The 'Happy Diamonds' collection was launched in 1976 and is instantly recognizable through use of loose diamonds which moved around between a sandwich of crystal.

Through the 70s and 80s Chopard grew in popularity and started to open boutiques around the world. It was in the late 80s that Chopard began its illustrious partnership with the Italian road rally the Mille Miglia: a thousand mile endurance race through the streets of Brescia to Rome and back again. To commemorate the partnership and the race itself, Chopard releases a new Mille Miglia watch every year.

Today, Chopard has over ninety boutiques across the globe, as well as three production facilities. The business is still run by the Scheufele family and customers range from the likes of Elton John to Penelope Cruz. Its dedication to producing beautiful in-house movements and elegant, original watch designs makes it more than a fashion brand.
