Uber den Künstler

Jacques Bircklé was born on March 7, 1734. He was known as a French woodworker. Bircklé became a master carpenter on July 30, 1764. His workshop was located on the Rue de Charenton and later on the Rue de Saint-Nicholas in Paris.

Between the years 1785 and 1789 he was commissioned to produce furniture for the Chateau Saint Cloud by Marie-Antoinette and Madame Elisabeth of Montreuil. He also received commissions from the duke of Orleans and the Princesse de Lamballe. Furniture of his hand is very high in quality. His skills as a master become evident by the decorative effect incorporated in his furniture.

He makes use of bronze fittings very sparingly. He also shows a preference for marquetry with high contrast and a lack of superfluous detail. His floral designs are often surrounded by Greek ornaments. Bircklé passed away in March, 1803.
