Uber den Künstler

John Bizas was born in 1980 on Chios Island in Greece. From an early age he was interested in fine arts and he soon got involved in sculpture. He prefers to use marble for his works. His passion for marble made him move to Italy, in 2008. There, he went to the Academy of Carrara and the Accademia d’Arte Firenze. Today he lives and runs one of his studios in Pietrasanta, the home of stone carving since Michelangelo first recognized the beauty of the local stone. He also has studios in Chios, and Moscow. In his work, classic materials meet contemporary art. He likes to use negative space in his work; the way light travels in- and around his pieces, as well as directing the gaze through his sculptures, is indicative of his style. Bizas has exhibited in Italy, Greece, Germany and Belgium and has undertaken public commissions in Thessaloniki, Greece. His concept with the sharks series is to represent humanity as a hungry and aggressive shark. But whereas real sharks are doing that to survive, humanity is doing it for profit and pleasure.
