Uber den Künstler

Wilhelm Velten was a Russian artist who was born in St. Petersburg. He went to art school in St. Petersburg in 1867, but quit prematurely and moved to Munich in 1870 to study there at the Munich Academy of Arts. He has been featured in many exhibitions in Russia and Germany. His works mainly depicted animals, hunting parties, court life, landscapes and soldiers, often referring to 17th and 18th century themes and works. He tended towards a more impressionist style later in his career. His work is featured in museums such as the Museum of Fine arts in San Francisco and the National Galleries of Prague and Munich.
