The merchant and painter Simon van Brakel (1816-1884) was a member of the artistsociety Pictura and belonged to the School of Dordrecht, dominated by the painter J.C. Schotel. As a painter Simon was taught by his father Gerrit van Brakel, also a merchant as well as a painter of seascapes and member of Pictura as well. Oil on panel, signed.
Über Künstler
Simon van Brakel war ein Maler niederländischer Herkunft, geboren am 24. Dezember 1816 in Dordrecht, Niederlande. Er war sowohl als Kaufmann als auch als Maler bekannt. Bevorzugte Themen seiner Hand sind Seestücke, Schiffe und Flussblicke. 1869 wurde van Brakels Werk in der Exposition generale des Beaux Arts ausgestellt. Van Brakel lebte sein ganzes Leben in der Stadt Dordrecht und starb am 5. Februar 1884.
