Uber den Künstler

Cornelis Westerbeek (1844, Sassenheim - 1903, The Hague) was a Dutch painter and draughtsman. He studied under Bartholomeus, Johannes van Hove at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Academy of Fine Arts) in The Hague. His active period in The Hague was from 1859 – 1903. Westerbeek’s favorite subjects were landscapes with cows, moorland landscapes with sheep, and animals. He exhibited regularly in Amsterdam, Arnhem and The Hague. Works by his hand are included in the collections of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, for example, Koeien aan de plas (Cows on the lake). Cornelis Westerbeek was the teacher of his son Cornelis Westerbeek jr. (1873 – 1917), who also was a landscapist.
