Jonas Witsen

Jonas Witsen belonged to the famous Amsterdam Witsen family. Various members of this family held important municipal and trade functions. Jonas however used his good fortune to foster the arts, for example sending Dirk Valkenburg to Curaçao to paint rare birds and plants. He owned a cabinet of curiosities and an impressive art collection.
