Bloteling (the painter) remained unmarried and lived in Amsterdam with C. van Dalen I, who made him his universal heir.
Bloteling was an etcher and from his style it can be seen that he was a student of the Visschers. He is also known for his prints, miniatures and drawings. His subjects were often portraits, genre depictions and historical subjects.
Because of the French incursions into the Netherlands in 1672 Bloteling moved to England. He remained in London from 1673 until 1678 but he possibly traveled back and forth to Amsterdam together with fellow painters David Loggan and Gerard Valck.
He moved back to Amsterdam in 1678 where Bloteling stayed until he died in 1690.
