• Über Kunstwerk
  Born in the vibrant cultural hub of London in 1971, Chelsea Davine now calls the sun-kissed streets of Barcelona her home and artistic sanctuary. Drawing inspiration from the ephemeral beauty of everyday life, Davine’s work captures the essence of fleeting moments and overlooked details.
  The art critic Alex Bahna said that Chelsea wanted to bring out the whole harmonious, elemental process in her work, or as she puts it: “Make something beautiful and delicate out of something as uncompromising as steel, stone, copper or lead.”
  However it is not the purity and permanence of the metal that interests Chelsea, but how it ages. For her, metal is a canvas on which she studies the effect of time, water and oxygen - mixing diluted nitric and hydrochloric acid and using it to corrode the protective oily skin that preserves the surface of steel, then scratching it to encourage rust. From this, layer by layer, she creates three-dimensional abstracts 'paint sculptures' where textures and colours merge and change with alterations in the light.

  Chelsea lebt und arbeitet in Barcelona, Spanien. Ihre Inspiration sind die kleinen, oft unbemerkten Details, die den Alltag ausmachen: Schornsteinrauch, poliertes Gold, Muster unter abblätternder Farbe, kaputte Treppen, die nirgendwohin führen, der Zahn der Zeit, der in Metall geätzt ist, ein Weg durch eine trockene Landschaft … „Jedes Gemälde, das ich Zu Beginn faszinieren mich die Schichten und die Textur weiterhin, ebenso wie der Prozess.

  Mein Thema bleibt dasselbe: das Material selbst, die Küste, das Meer, die Linien des Verlangens, die die Landschaft durchziehen, die Zeit und ihre zersetzende Wirkung auf Materialien und das Finden der Schönheit in dem, was wir um uns herum sehen.

  Die Welt dringt in mein Studio ein: Farbe, Licht, Politik, Religion, Menschen. Gespräche bleiben bei mir, Karten faszinieren mich, Reisen begeistern mich. Schaffen und Malen ist ein Gebot und eine Obsession, ohne die ich keinen Tag leben könnte.“
