Attributed to Matthijs Horris (Lobberich 1735-1809 the Hague)

Matthijs Horrix is the most famous cabinetmaker of The Hague in the 18th century. He became to The Hague around 1761 and became a member of the cabinetmakers guild of that city in 1764. He had his workshop at the Spuistraat. From 1770 onwards Horrix developed in size and versatility. He could manufacture any kind of furniture needed to decorate an entire house. This was widely appreciated, especially by the Stadholders Court and its entourage, because he worked “to the most fashionable taste of Paris”.

Matthijs Horrix ist der berühmteste Tischler von Den Haag im 18. Jahrhundert. Er kam um 1761 nach Den Haag und wurde 1764 Mitglied der Tischlergilde dieser Stadt. Er hatte seine Werkstatt in der Spuistraat. Ab 1770 entwickelte sich Horrix in Größe und Vielseitigkeit. Er konnte jede Art von Möbeln herstellen, die zur Dekoration eines ganzen Hauses benötigt wurden. Dies wurde weithin geschätzt, insbesondere vom Stadholders Court und seinem Gefolge, weil er „nach dem modischsten Geschmack von Paris“ arbeitete.
