- Über KünstlerJacob Bendien was a Dutch painter and graphic artist who was born in Amsterdam on 16 April 1890. He died in Amsterdam on 16 December 1933. Bendien moved to Paris in 1911 where he met the sculptor and painter John Rädecker and the painter Jan van Deene. There, he began adopting abstract art which he called “absolute” painting. These paintings were shown at the autumn exhibition of 'The Independents' in Amsterdam in 1913. His abstract art is characterised by various colours and lines which could be read as a reflection of the artist’s inner self. In 1916 and 1917 he exhibited his fantasy heads and abstract drawings. Bendien wrote a book about modern painting that was published after his dead. Bendien also created various sculptures.
