- Über KünstlerAlexander Hugo Bakker Korff was a 19th century Dutch genre painter. He was a pupil of the painters Cornelis Kruseman and Huib van Hove.
Bakker Korff was trained at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague and the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in Antwerp in the 1840s. Initially, he painted mythological and biblical scenes in the Romantic-Classicist style. However in the 1850s he broke away from academical conventions and switched to painting genre pieces of ladies in caps in interiors. Often called ‘Bakker Korffjes’, he became internationally known and popular for this work. In 1970 he was awarded the title 'ridder in de Leopoldsorde'. He was a member of the Dutch art society Pulchri Studio, The Hague.
